To start with the obvious: Sookee is purple. Or rather: Sookee’s drag is purple, as we’re all born naked and purple skin colour still is to be created. There is multiple myths circulating around the question whether or not her favorite colour symbolizes something specific and if so: what does it stand for? „Lila ist rot und blau, so einfach ist die Nachricht.“ [„Purple is red and blue / it’s as simple as that“] says a line of Keep it Käsekuchen, suggesting that there was no deeper meaning to the colour concept. But what is pink for Nicki Minaj might be purple with Sookee: an aesthetic choice for her that ultimately represents and affirms a certain cultural aka political spectrum and agenda. Be it to emphazise the power of the hyperfeminine (pink/Barbie) or the fusion of „male“ and „female“ potencies to one queerfeminist force (purple/Quing).

Feminine symbolics and affirmation are two core concepts in both Sookee’s lyrics and her politics. She rhymes against masculinist agendas and aggression and does not get tired of adressing male dominance and sexism in HipHop and society as a whole in every interview she is giving. The underlying passion, or may I say ‚drive‘, is her wish to free queerfeminine desire from patriarchal oppression and heterosexist stereotypes and to affirm a non violent utopia of culture and society as a whole.

Sookee is Quing of Berlin. Sookee is a wordnerd. A linguistic engine flipping and twisting words and meanings constantly, speaking at least as fast as she raps. And Sookee is progressing: in three years she was hardly one weekend off stage. Touring in the States [march 2013] might open the door to a more international audience and even better: to international features and collaborations with other quingMCs…I can’t wait to hear that happen!
